Nasir Alfa Mohammed holds an LLM degree in Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) in Scotland UK, a QCL from the Ghana School of Law, and an LLB and a B.A. in Political Science with Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon.

Nasir is a lawyer, consultant, and a policy analyst with over 12 years of progressive work experience in general legal practice and policy advocacy across various thematic areas of law and Policy. In particular, Nasir’s focus has been in the areas of energy/natural resources/extractive law and policy/governance (Oil, Gas, Mining, and Electricity), constitutional/administrative law, land law, company law, legislative drafting, tax law, maritime law, as well as civil and criminal litigation.

As a lawyer and consultant, Nasir currently works as Senior Associate Consultant at Ali-Nakyea & Associates, providing legal opinions and consulting services to a broad spectrum of clients, including actors in the oil, gas, mining, and power/electricity sectors, as well as providing project evaluation services to non-profit organisations, among others. Prior to Ali-Nakyea, Nasir worked as Associate Legal Practitioner at Atuguba & Associates, a private law firm with the LADA Group of Companies in Accra. On the sidelines, Nasir has over the years been a key resource person to the Centre for Maritime Law and Security Africa (CEMLAWS Africa) on a broad spectrum of law and policy projects with partners of CEMLAWS Africa.

At the policy front, Nasir worked as Policy Advocacy Officer with the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) from September 2019 to November 2021, during which he led NRGI’s legal reform and policy advocacy agenda in Ghana. Nasir has also worked as a policy analyst with the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), holding senior management and advisory positions. Additionally, Nasir has worked variously as Research Assistant and Analyst at the World Bank Group, Research Assistant at the Constitution Review Commission (CRC – Ghana), Associate Consultant on Oil and Gas Advocacy at the West African Civil Society Institute (WACSI), STAR Ghana, and Consultant to GFD on review of Disability Laws in Ghana at LADA Institute, Accra before joining Ali-Nakyea & Associates.

Nasir served as a member of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) representing the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) from January 2020 to October 2023. During this period, Nasir assumed several leadership roles including serving concurrently as the Vice Chairman of PIAC and Chair of PIAC’s Technical Sub-Committee from September 2021 to October 2023. He has previously Chaired the Legal Sub-Committee of PIAC from September 2020 to September 2021.

Nasir is a Law Lecturer with the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) and a Part-Time Lecturer in Energy Law with the University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL). He has co-authored peer-reviewed papers on energy law and natural resource governance published in global journals.
